|
Location : Pine Barrens, NJWhat a desolate place! Just miles and miles of swamp and trees. You couldn't ask for a spookier location for some cryptozoology! The BOWH has been asked to investigate "The Jersey Devil" by the Winslow Township who have been terrorised by strange noises in the night and bizarre occurrences. On arrival it occurs to me that this town may have been the actual inspiration behind all those old Scooby Doo episodes from Saturday morning tv. There actually is an old abandonded amusement park in this town and it actually is owned by "Old Man Withers"... Ok so his real name is Smith but he is old, well 43 and ok so "he" is a "she", but the amusement park IS abandoned....well, closed for the night is nearer the truth. But it is really spooky! Ok, so we arrive in Winslow Township and immediately get the feeling that something just isn't right. Maybe it's the way nobody will look you in the eye or maybe it's the the fact that they all have 7 fingers on their left hand and a superflous nipple above their left eyebrow. Either way something just isn't right. Admittedly, the BOWH is met with a great deal of suspicion as we make our way towards the municipal part of the township. Hardly a great surprise since we don't exactly look normal ourselves and Rage was muttering under his breath his usual utterances about killing - another swift kick to the nethers for him later and a few burgers laced with tranqs will sort him out! We eventually make it to the Town Hall where we meet with the Mayor - a strange little man who reminds me of a cross between a half eaten rat and a flattened badger. His flunky does most of the talking for him, a real toady of a man, you can amost see the slime oozing out his political pores. For the purposes of this account he will be referred to in any future writings as "Mr Toad". Mr Toad pulls out all the reports which had been filed with the local police and hand us copies for our perusal later. From first glance the sightings seem to be localised around an area of local interest and supposed home of the Jersey Devil called "The Blue Hole". This is a place the locals believe to be a bottomless hole formed when a meteor struck many, many moons ago and then filled with water. Our later scientific analysis revealed it be a deepwater spring - almost geyser-like in it's make-up. It is also worth noting however that many people have died in this hole and many under mysterious circumstances. This could be the clue we have been looking for. Local legend "The Jersey Devil" and "Mysterious Hole" sounds right up our alley! Mr Toad gives us a map of the area and shows us how to get to this "Blue Hole". Minutes later we are travelling down "Piney Hollow Road" in our custom built Camper Van and on our way to our first paranormal investigation.
